World Wildlife Fund Once Again Chooses EcoLogix Group to Provide Support on International Fisheries Assessment

Annapolis, MD (June 1, 2006) - EcoLogix Group, a professional services company focused on sustainability planning and creating economic, environmental and social value, has once again been chosen by World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to assist in an important fisheries assessment project involving the Untied States Agency for International Development (USAID) and several other partners.

WWF, the largest privately supported international conservation organization in the world, is dedicated to protecting the world's wildlife and wildlands. As the global leader in safeguarding the world's environment, including our marine ecosystems, WWF has been asked to participate in a capture fisheries opportunities assessment in partnership with the USAID to consider opportunities whereby USAID can contribute to improving management of fisheries to enhance conservation, ecosystem health and productivity. WWF has once again chosen EcoLogix Group as the key support provider for this important project due to the extensive fisheries expertise and experience of the EcoLogix staff and the long working history between the two organizations. EcoLogix will be working closely with WWF, USAID, the University of Rhode Island, the University of Connecticut, and other partners to identify and recommend specific opportunities for USAID investment in nearshore small-scale marine and freshwater capture fisheries that contribute to one or more of the Agency's major mandates, initiatives, or focal areas. A key emphasis in the assessment will be to summarize issues concerning nearshore fisheries management globally, and how this can be matched to USAID interests in biodiversity conservation, poverty reduction, food security, democracy and good governance, and other development objectives.

"Fisheries management is a key issue of our times. With fish providing more than 20% of the animal proteins consumed by humans throughout the world, it is imperative that we successfully manage our fish stocks. However, experts agree that numerous fish species are over harvested to the point of near collapse and others are well on their way. Seeking opportunities to improve fisheries management through enhanced conservation, ecosystem health and productivity is a vital undertaking. USAID has a tremendous impact on world development and anything that EcoLogix Group can do to improve their knowledge base is extremely important. We are pleased to have been chosen by WWF to support their participation in this project and look forward to a continuing and strong relationship on fisheries and other matters of sustainability," stated George Chmael II, President of EcoLogix Group.
