EcoLogix Group Selected by Elm Street Development Corporation to Lead Effort to Bring Innovative Wastewater Treatment System to Chesapeake Bay Watershed
Annapolis, MD (January 2, 2004)
- EcoLogix Group, a professional services company focused on sustainability planning and creating economic, environmental and social value, has been selected by Elm Street Development Corporation to play a lead role in an effort to bring an innovative wastewater treatment technology to the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
As Elm Street prepares to launch its new development project in Queenstown, Maryland it has elected to pursue approval of the use of a reverse osmosis treatment system as part of the town's soon-to-be-expanded publicly-owned treatment works (POTW). The system, if approved, is anticipated to reduce nutrient discharge concentrations to less than 1/10th of their current levels allowing for as much as a ten-fold increase in treatment capacity for the plant with resulting nutrient discharge volumes remaining steady or actually decreasing. EcoLogix Group is providing governmental facilitation and community relations services in support of this ground-breaking project.
"We are delighted to be playing a key role in Elm Street's Queenstown project. The Chesapeake Bay faces a tremendous nutrient pollution challenge and it has recently been estimated that more than $10 billion dollars may be required to address the nutrient problem by, among other things, bringing the region's POTWs systems to a point where they can achieve a discharge level of 3 milligrams per liter. The reverse osmosis system proposed by Elm Street is anticipated to treat to an astonishing level of 1 mg/ltr or less. While it certainly won't solve the Chesapeake's nutrient pollution problem, this sort of technology advance can play a vital role in moving the region toward a more sustainable wastewater treatment infrastructure," stated George Chmael II, President of EcoLogix Group.
